Megawati Instructs Regional Heads To Postpone To Take Retret In Magelang, Observer: PDIP Starts Dare To Fight The Government

PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri ordered regional heads and deputy heads from her party not to take part in retret activities in Magelang on February 21-28.

Executive Director of Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO), Dedi Kurnia Syah, assessed that Megawati's instructions were quite worrying. PDIP, according to him, began to dare to fight the government.

"PDIP is starting to dare to show resistance to the government, and in the future similar instructions can be directed to the DPR, where PDIP cadres are also dominant," said Dedi in Jakarta, Friday, February 21.

If this instruction is carried out, continued Dedi, President Prabowo Subianto is in danger of losing confidence and PDIP's legitimacy. The biggest risk, can make Prabowo fall early.

"If this instruction is followed and there is no violation of the law to refuse to take part in the treatment, then Prabowo's main government authority as the initiator of the retreat is questioned," said Dedi.

"In addition to wasting the budget, the fact is that the program does not bind regional heads under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs," he continued.

In addition, Dedi assessed that the rampant mass movement that is currently emerging indicates that the government is experiencing a crisis of public trust. PDIP, according to him, could help drive the masses to encourage change.

"If that happens Prabowo's position is really cornered," said Dedi.

For this reason, Dedi assessed that the government needs to respond to this PDIP movement by reducing pressure on the public, evaluating policy directions, and not taking populist programs arbitrarily.
