JAKARTA - The Indonesian government succeeded in repatriating 46 Indonesian citizens (WNI) suspected of being victims of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in Myanmar, Thursday.

Among Indonesian citizens who were successfully repatriated to the country today, there is a former DPRD member from Indramayu with the initials R.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Thursday (20/2) said the repatriation process was carried out through Thailand after the Indonesian citizens were evacuated from conflict areas in Myanmar and underwent a verification process by Thai authorities.

Upon arrival in Indonesia, Indonesian citizens will be accommodated at the Ministry of Social Affairs' Protection and Trauma Center (RPTC) to undergo further verification processes.

"This verification aims to ensure the status of the victim and identify the responsible parties so that they can be processed in accordance with applicable law," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After their status is confirmed, the victims will receive rehabilitation, reintegration, and empowerment services before being returned to their respective areas of origin in accordance with statutory provisions.

The success of this repatriation is clear evidence of the state's presence in protecting citizens who need assistance abroad.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that this process was carried out through close cooperation between the Government of Indonesia, the Government of Thailand, the Myanmar authorities, and various relevant Ministries/Institutions and the TNI-Polri.

The government urges the Indonesian people to always be careful and ensure compliance with official procedures when planning to work abroad. Thus, they can avoid the risk of TIP which can harm themselves and their families in the country.
