JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, admitted that his party will begin socializing the new student admission system (PPDB) for the 2021-2022 academic year this week to parents of students.

Nahdiana said, currently DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is still finalizing the governor's regulation regarding PPDB. He hopes the PPDB socialization will be carried out this week.

"Our target is that PPDB is completed this week for socialization. This year we are conducting school socialization to parents in the final grade, grade 6 and grade 9. This is an evaluation that we did not do last year," Nahdiana told reporters, Wednesday, April 21.

Nahdiana admitted that last year there was confusion about the confusing school registration mechanism because there was no direct socialization from the school.

In fact, last year, DKI implemented a zoning-based student admission system, which was slightly different from the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture.

As a result, many parents have complained about the system.

Then, Nahdiana also emphasized that this year PPDB DKI would refer to Permendikbud Number 1 of 2021 concerning Technical Guidelines for New Student Admissions for the 2021/2022 Academic Year. Where, there are still zoning rules.

So, in this socialization, Disdik will ask parents to understand that there will definitely be students who will not be accommodated in the chosen school.

"An evaluation has been carried out. The regulations have been stipulated in the Permendikbud. Because the capacity is limited, there must be some that are not accepted," said Nahdiana.

PPDB chaos last year

Many parents protested against the rules for admission of students through the zoning route in the PPDB last year. This acceptance is carried out by determining the system of the closest area from the house to the school.

In this regulation, the quota for the PPDB academic year 2020-2021 for the affirmation path is 25 percent, 40 percent for zoning path, 20 percent for academic achievement, 5 percent for non-academic and outside DKI 5 percent, and 5 percent for moving parent duties.

Then, if there are two students with the same distance from where the prospective students live and the school, then the selection to fulfill the last quota will prioritize the older student.

That means, there is a possibility that getting the school of choice from prospective students who are younger will be defeated by older ones. Those who do not qualify, like it or not, have to find private schools. This system is what makes students' parents feel that they have received injustice.

Moreover, currently the special zoning route quota in DKI is only 40 percent, different from the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 44 of 2019 which determines the zoning quota of 50 percent. The chances of young students getting to the target public schools are getting smaller.

A number of parents have complained about this problem to the DPRD to the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI). To solve this problem, finally Disdik DKI opened additional student admissions channels.
