The Attorney General's Office (Kejari) and the Batam Immigration Office, Riau Islands, have secured a fugitive from the Attorney General's Office who is convicted of embezzlement of money for the departure of prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (CPMI) worth Rp230 million.
The convict named I Wayan Depa Yogiana was secured at Citra Tritunas Batam or Harbor Bay Port.
Batam District Attorney I Ketut Kasna said Wayan Depa Yogiana had been found guilty based on the cassation decision with a sentence of 1.5 years in prison, whose case was handled by the Badung Kejari, Bali.
"The convict was secured thanks to the results of coordination between the Batam Immigration Office, together with the Bali Attorney General's Office and the Bali Attorney General's Office team that it is true that the person concerned is a fugitive on the penalty list," Kasna said in Batam, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, February 18.
According to Kasna, the convict was detected with Immigration Block data when he arrived from Malaysia at Harbor Bay Harbor, Batam City, on Monday.
The findings were then confirmed to the Attorney General's Office and the Bali Attorney General's Office confirming that the person concerned was a convict on the penalty list.
Batam Hajar Aswad Immigration Chief explained that his party carried out an immigration check on I Wayan Depa Yogiana, a passenger on the MV Dolphin 5 ship from Pasir Kuda Malaysia to Citra Tritunas Port Batam.
"When checked at the Citra Tritunas immigration counter or Harbor Bay, it was discovered that the status concerned prevented the silting," said Hajar.
Based on Immigration records, the convict I Wayan Depa had left Indonesia via Harbor Bay Port on January 25, 2025, to Pasir Kuda Port, Malaysia.
A few days later, on February 13, 2025, the Supreme Court Decree No. 1037/K/Pid.2024 dated July 9, 2024, was issued.
"So the person (the convict) has come out first, then the local broadcast will be published on February 13, 2025," said Hajar.
Fortunately, on February 17, said Kasna, the convict I Wayan returned to Indonesia from Pasir Kuda Port, Malaysia through Harbor Bay Port.
The Immigration Department then carried out security and confirmed whether the data in the immigration application system identified 100 percent of the passengers as identical to the convict I Wayan.
Not only that, he said, after coordinating with the Batam Kejari, he was also directed to the Bali Attorney General's Office to ensure that the person concerned was identical to 100 percent of the fugitives who were banned.
"After three times confirming by system, by the Prosecutor's Office and the Bali Prosecutor's Office, it was decided to carry out security and asked to hand over to the Batam Kejari last night," he said.
Hajar added that Batam Immigration continues to synergize with various people to enforce the law against perpetrators of criminal acts.
"As an effort for our synergy, Immigration and the Batam Prosecutor's Office or the Attorney General's Office, there is a Bali Attorney General's Office to participate in enforcing the law against anyone," he said.
The convict I Wayan Depa Yogiana, is the director of a private company in Bali engaged in the distribution of PMI to a number of countries. In this case, I Wayan embezzled PMI candidates worth Rp230 million, out of 46 PMI candidates who would be employed to a number of countries.
The convict asked PMI candidates for Rp5 million for initial administration, then the rest was paid after leaving. The convict without permission cut or took for office operational costs of Rp10 million, for payment to PT Cahaya Antar Indonesia in the amount of Rp220 million, with details used to take care of PMI candidates who were convicted of previous recruitment, and for the management of PMI candidates from PT Reka Kerja Semesta.
