Anticipating Accidents, Transjakarta Places Officers At Train Crossings

JAKARTA - PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) will place officers at the railroad crossing (KA) to help regulate traffic at the railroad crossing.

"Transjakarta will place special officers to assist traffic control on railroad crossings," said Head of the Corporate Secretary Division of PT Transjakarta, Tjahyadi Dermawan in an official statement, Monday, February 17.

This decision follows the incident on Saturday (15/2) at around 13.00 WIB, when the Transjakarta electric bus fleet belonging to the Bianglala Metropolitan operator with the number BMP 240364 was hampered by its journey at the railroad track gate at Green Garden towards Pasar Baru when crossing the tracks and sirens rang.

Tjahyadi referred to the results of an internal investigation that there were no technical problems on the bus at the time of the incident.

Based on the investigation, the speed of the bus was hampered after passing some of the railroad tracks, then traffic lights showed red indicators and there were other vehicles on the bus.

"The bus had crossed part of the railroad tracks, before the siren sounded and the railroad crossing gate was closed," said Tjahyadi.

After the red light was over, he said, the vehicle in front of the bus was running and the bus then drove normally.

Tjahyadi admitted that at that time the panic occurred because passengers forced their way down and broke the left side glass.

"We apologize for the inconvenience. This is Transjakarta's serious concern to evaluate the driver's SOP, especially on routes that cross railroad tracks," he said.
