Garut Local Government Handling Landslide Disasters Hits Residents' Houses

GARUT - The Government of Garut Regency, West Java, has handled areas affected by landslides that hit two houses in Nyalindung Village, Cisewu District.

The acting head of the Cisewu sub-district, Jajang Juhara, said that the initial handling carried out by his staff was by evacuating all residents of the houses of victims of landslides to their relatives' houses that were safe from the danger of landslides.

"For the time being, the handling of landslides for victims of collapsed houses was evacuated in their families," said Jajang when contacted by cell phone in Garut, Saturday night.

He said the rain that flushed the southern region of Garut, Saturday afternoon, caused a landslide that hit two houses in Kampung OK, Nyalindung Village, Cisewu District.

Luckily, he said, the incident did not cause any casualties, only causing damage to the building of the house, which finally all residents had to evacuate for self-defense.

"There were no casualties, one house collapsed completely, and the other collapsed in the kitchen," he said.

He conveyed that currently the rainy season is increasing vigilance and continues to appeal to the public to always be vigilant by avoiding areas prone to natural disasters, such as landslides.

Like the landslide disaster in Nyalindung, he said, his party appealed to the public not to approach areas affected by landslides, especially when it rains.

"We have been advised to temporarily be close to the location to be more careful if there is another heavy rain. The landslide location is far from the neighbor, which ranges from 50 meters from the landslide location to other settlements," he said.

Apart from Cisewu District, natural disasters in the form of land shifted to occur in Selaawi District when there was rain that threatened danger to the buildings of residents' houses.

The Head of Selaawi Sub-district, Fahmi Fauzi, said that he had submitted an application to the Garut Regency Government to immediately build a retaining wall so that it could hold the ground so that it did not continue to spread and cause damage to houses.

"The application will be immediately handled by constructing a retaining wall with more adequate construction, because if it is not handled immediately, it is feared that the house will collapse," he said.
