Not Yet Given An Explanation, DPRD Will Ask DKI Provincial Government To Clarify Plans To Build Mitigation Embankments

JAKARTA - Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD will summon the ranks of the DKI Provincial Government to ask for a detailed explanation regarding the plan to build a mitigation embankment in North Jakarta.

Chairman of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Yuke Yurike, admitted that the council members had not received an explanation from the DKI Provincial Government regarding the discourse.

"In the near future (Commission D of the DKI DPRD) will ask for clarification regarding the details of the mitigation embankment planning," Yuke told reporters, Friday, February 14.

Commission D of the DKI DPRD, continued Yuke, will demand an explanation from the DKI Provincial Government regarding the preparation for the construction of a mitigation embankment, starting from the design, priority location, source of funding, and deadline for completion of the project.

Yuke emphasized that this presentation aims to ensure that development runs according to plan and is not hampered by technical problems or land acquisition.

"We also want to ensure that the construction of this embankment is designed in a sustainable and integrated manner with other efforts, such as improving drainage in coastal areas and better water management," explained Yuke.

According to Yuke, the DKI Provincial Government must carry out good socialization so that residents understand the benefits of building a mitigation embankment and support its implementation.

"We at Commission D will continue to oversee this program so that it can be realized immediately and provide real benefits for Jakarta residents, especially in areas that are vulnerable to tidal flooding," said Yuke.

Previously, Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi, revealed that the DKI Provincial Government would build a mitigation embankment to reduce the impact of tidal flooding or coastal flooding in northern Jakarta.

This mitigation embankment will be built in the areas of Muara Angke, Pluit, Muara Baru, Sunda Kelapa, Marunda, and Jalan RE Martadinata.

"In 2025, mitigation embankments will be built, God willing, in some areas, so that later the embankment can help deal with the tidal problem," said Teguh, some time ago.

Teguh said that this embankment will function to withstand tidal flooding while waiting for the construction of a sea wall sea embankment in the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) project.

Assistant for Development and Environment of the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretariat, Afan Adriansyah Idris, added that the construction of the mitigation embankment will prioritize areas that are often affected by severe tidal flooding.

"The first is for the mitigation embankment, it is about 1.1 kilos whose position is on the west side of Muara Angke. So, he will be elevated to a plus position of 3 meters," explained Afan.
