Visiting Tangerang Prison, KPK Invites Prisoners To Join Corruption Eradication

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) invites prisoners to play a role in eradicating corruption. This was conveyed by KPK Deputy Chairman Lili Pintauli Siregar while visiting the Tangerang Class IIA Prison, Banten in anti-corruption counseling activities for inmates.

Lili said that all parties can play a role in efforts to eradicate corruption. The convicts of corruption cases are no exception and they can do this, by sharing their experiences so that the public can reap the lessons.

"The experiences of prisoners can be shared with others. How is social pressure on individuals and their families. So that people can learn lessons and do not want to commit corruption," said Lili as quoted from her written statement, Tuesday, April 20.

The counseling that was held at the Class IIA Correctional Institution in Tangerang on Tuesday, April 20, was attended by 25 inmates. There were 20 people from corruption cases handled by the KPK and five people handled by the Attorney General's Office.

This activity is also held in a series of Kartini Day commemoration. So that all participants of this counseling are women.

"Friends of prisoners can follow in Kartini's footsteps as a pioneer of women's emancipation. Therefore, I invite friends here to participate in the eradication of corruption, when they go to society," said Lili.

For the KPK, this activity, which is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, aims to empower corruption convicts to be able to inform about the importance of anti-corruption integrity values. The hope is that the public will take lessons not to follow in his footsteps of committing corruption.

"We are aware that the steps we are taking are not easy. Therefore, the KPK hopes that we will work hand in hand with each other actively in eradicating corruption through the participation of all elements of society," he explained.

This series of activities was also attended by the Director of the Directorate of Prisoner Development and Production Work Training (Binapilatkerpro) Thurman Saud Marojahan Hutapea, Head of Tangerang Herastini IIA Prison, Head of Banten Kumham Regional Office Agus Toyib, and Deputy Governor of Banten Andika Hazrumy.

Thurman appreciated this counseling, and hoped that the cooperation between the KPK and the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights could continue to be improved.

"The responsibility for managing prisons and detention centers is under the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Through today's counseling activities, the KPK has taken a role to participate in providing guidance for assisted residents. I hope this activity can be continued," said Thurman.
