Commission V DPR Calls Deadly Accident At Ciawi Toll Gate Must Be A Serious Attention To The Ministry Of Transportation And The Police

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission V DPR RI Lasarus assessed that the fatal accident that occurred at the Ciawi Toll Gate, Bogor City, West Java, must be a serious concern of the Ministry of Transportation and the Indonesian Police. This is because these two agencies are authorized to test the feasibility of motorized vehicles.

It is known that the accident on the evening of Tuesday, February 4 occurred after a gallon truck suffered a failed brake and hit several vehicles at the toll gate, resulting in eight deaths and 11 others injured.

"As for the temporary information we received, from the police statement as well, then from the results of the interim investigation, there was a failed brake truck, a truck carrying gallons of water. So in my opinion, this should be a serious concern from the Ministry of Transportation," said Lasarus at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 5.

"Actually, it is feasible for the vehicle to run, it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation. Then the matter of cargo and so on, actually if on the highway it is clear that friends from the police should pay attention to things like this. Because two institutions have the authority to monitor vehicles that are allowed and cannot run, right. Yes, I think this is a serious concern," he continued.

Besides vehicle owners, according to Lasarus, vehicle owners such as companies that own vehicles are also careless. Because, he said, the company should know the condition of the vehicle operating.

"I think this is also negligent, if until that is the result of the investigation the brakes failed, it means that the car used does not receive proper treatment. This must also be thoroughly investigated by the police, the point of the problem is actually where it is," said Lasarus.

The PDIP legislator assessed that there were three things that became the focus of attention. First, about the check brake from the Ministry of Transportation regarding the feasibility of vehicles on the road. Second, due to the non-function of the Timbang bridge. Third, the brakes are not due to overloading capacity.

"We also don't know that this vehicle is overloaded over, it's not mentioned yet. There is no information yet, if he is an odol, why can he walk. It could also be that the brakes failed, the load factor exceeded the capacity, it could be. That's why we are waiting for the results of the investigation from the police as soon as possible, then for repairs," said Lasarus.

Therefore, Lasarus added, Commission V of the DPR will summon the Ministry of Transportation to find out the results of the investigation related to the deadly accident at the Ciawi Toll Gate.

"We will call, tomorrow we will hold a working meeting with the ministry," said Lasarus.
