JAKARTA - There was no resistance with sharp weapons from Indonesian citizens who were victims of the shooting by officials from the Malaysian Maritime Strengthening Agency (APMM) in Malaysia. This was revealed by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu).

According to a written statement from the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, 29 Jnauari, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur met four shooting victims who were being treated at Serdang Hospital and Klang Hospital in Malaysia on Tuesday (28/1).

Two of them have been treated and are in stable condition identified as coming from Riau Province, while the other two have not been able to provide information because they are still in critical condition after surgery, Judha said.

"The two victims who were in stable condition explained that there was no resistance with sharp weapons from Indonesian citizens passengers to the APMM apparatus," said Judha.

Judha said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur were also in the process of curing one Indonesian citizen who died from Riau Province to be repatriated to Indonesia, whose repatriation of bodies is planned to be carried out on Wednesday (29/1).

"The return was via Kuala Lumpur-Pekanbaru flight and continued on land trips to the deceased's hometown on Rupat Island, Riau Province," he said.

Judha stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur would provide legal assistance to Indonesian citizens who were shooting victims to ensure their rights were fulfilled and would also pay for their treatment at the hospital until they recovered.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also encourages Malaysian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting incident, including the possibility of excessive use of force, Judha said.

He also said that the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur was still gathering more complete information in order to obtain a clearer construction of the incident and asked the Indonesian Embassy's lawyer to review and prepare legal steps.

Earlier on January 24, five Indonesian citizens were victims of shooting by the APMM apparatus at around 03.00 a.m. local time on a ship in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Selangor Malaysia.

In this incident, one person died and four others were injured.
