JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPDB) faces several challenges in overcoming fires that have recently occurred in Jakarta.

Head of the Disaster Information Data Center (Pusdatin) of the DKI Jakarta BPBD Regional Disaster Management Agency, Mohammad Yohan, explained that one of the challenges they face is adequate infrastructure limitations to reach difficult locations.

"In addition, there is a lack of public awareness about the risk of fires," Yohan said, quoting Antara.

Yohan explained, according to data from the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) during 2024, more than 1,200 fire cases were caused by short circuits.

Densely populated areas are very vulnerable due to the large use of electricity and gas without adequate supervision.

In addition, the use of electricity that accumulates in one electrical terminal, electrical installations that do not comply with standards and the use of cables that do not meet the capacity to deliver currents is also the main cause of electric short circuits.

Yohan explained, BPBD also faces challenges in overcoming fires in buildings that do not meet fire safety standards.

Nevertheless, BPBD continues to strive to face these challenges.

To reach the location of the fire that is difficult to reach, his party has formed a disaster management officer or what is commonly called a quick reaction team.

The rapid reaction team was placed in 267 urban villages to help accelerate coordination in each village.

BPBD through the Jakarta call center (call center) Alert 112 operates 24 hours non-stop to respond quickly to reports of fires from the public.

If there are reports of fires, BPBD will also immediately coordinate with the Gulkarmat Service, PLN, Satpol PP, Transportation Service (Dishub) and Emergency Ambulance of the Health Service (AGD Health Office) to respond quickly to the scene.

"However, challenges remain in terms of accessibility and resources," said Yohan.
