Garbage Emergency Status In Pekanbaru Not Extended, City Government Admits It Is Under Control

RIAU - Pekanbaru City Government (Pemkot), Riau Province did not extend the status of the waste emergency that had been implemented one week from January 15-22.

Pekanbaru Mayor Roni Rakhmat said the pile of garbage had begun to be controlled due to the ongoing transportation process.

"The status of the waste emergency has not been extended because the handling during the waste emergency has sufficient control of the existing piles of garbage," said Pekanbaru Mayor Roni Rakhmat in Pekanbaru, Riau, Thursday, January 23, as reported by Antara.

Roni explained that the status was not extended because the operator had received a warning letter from the relevant agencies. The operator received a warning letter because he was unable to handle the pile of garbage since early 2025.

He explained that currently the operator of garbage transportation, PT Ella Pratama Perkasa (EPP) has been reminded to carry out transportation according to schedule. They must carry out the existing contracts in transporting garbage.

He further asked operators to transport garbage in all areas that are included in the contract. Don't just transport garbage on the protocol path.

"So operators must be responsible for transporting garbage regularly, there should be no more piles," he said.

Roni also reminded operators to divide the fleet for each region. The distribution of this fleet will make it easier to transport waste in three areas.

All trucks must also be fitted with stickers and numbers according to the area. The existence of this sticker is to facilitate supervision of transportation by the lurah and sub-district heads.

He did not want to hear any more about garbage that had not been transported for a week. Therefore, he encourages waste transport supervisors to coordinate with the sub-district head to transport garbage in each zone.
