JAKARTA - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu), Sugiono, held a bilateral meeting with the Vice President of Yemen, Aidarus Al-Zoubaidi, to discuss Indonesia-Yemen cooperation and efforts to strengthen peace in the Middle East region.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, on Wednesday local time.
In the meeting, Sugiono and Al-Zoubaidi also discussed developments in the security situation in the Middle East and Red Sea regions.
"For Indonesia, Yemen is a brother and an important partner in promoting peace in the Middle East region," said the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, as conveyed in an official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
Sugiono also expressed his concern over the ongoing tensions in the two regions and emphasized Indonesia's support for achieving an inclusive peace process in Yemen.
"Peace in Yemen is an important factor in realizing stability in the Middle East," said the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, Sugiono asked for support from the Yemeni government to ensure protection for Indonesian citizens currently in Yemen. The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the protection of Indonesian citizens is always a priority in Indonesian diplomacy, especially considering the increasingly intense situation in the Middle East region.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yemen is one of the countries in the Middle East with a significant number of Indonesian diaspora, most of whom are students living in southern Yemen.
