JAKARTA - The Ministry of Human Rights (Kemenham) released a pocket book on human rights for prisoners proposed to receive the amnesty of President Prabowo Subianto which aims as a practical guide on strengthening human rights principles.
The pocket book titled 'Residents of Correctional Inmates Through the Granting of the Presidential Amnesty' was launched by Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai, Deputy Minister of Human Rights Mugiyanto, and Chairman of Commission XIII DPR RI Willy Aditya during the Coordination Meeting of the Ministry of Human Rights for the 2025 Fiscal Year in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 22.
"We are targeting human rights awareness education for 44 thousand prisoners who will be granted amnesty and today I have launched (human rights pocket book)," Pigai said when met after the coordination meeting, confiscated by Antara.
Based on the copy received, the pocket book consists of four chapters, namely the chapter "What Is Human Rights?", 'The Acts of Violating Human Rights', "The Rights and Obligations of Inmates", as well as "The Rights and Obligations of Citizens".
The pocket book was prepared to provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles of human rights that are universal, inseparable, and relevant to the implementation of the state's obligations in respecting, protecting, and fulfilling human rights.
Through this book, readers are expected to gain more insight into the importance of respect for human dignity, both in the global context and in its implementation in Indonesia.
Chairman of Commission XIII DPR RI Willy Aditya appreciated the launch of the Human Rights pocket book. According to Willy, this shows that the Ministry of Human Rights has executed President Prabowo's political decision.
"Of course Commission XIII appreciates this and then we together to really take care of this, deliver (announcing, ed.) this together. If it is given a pocket book, it is an extraordinary thing," he said when met separately.

Previously, Pigai said that prisoners who met the criteria for obtaining amnesty from the President would be given human rights education first. According to him, it aims to build human rights awareness and change the mindset of prisoners from criminal to humanist.
"Their training is related to human rights values, democracy, justice, peace, so that the most important thing is change of mindset. Mindset is criminal, (changed into) human mindset," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
The Minister of Human Rights said that human rights education for prisoners who will be granted amnesty is one of the focuses of the Ministry of Human Rights for 2025.
"Before they are given amnesty, we will visit correctional institutions, inventory. An inventory has started and later we will carry out education," he said.
