DENPASAR - The Provincial Government of Bali has begun to require the ranks of regional apparatus, BUMD, and schools in the provincial government to bring their respective drink bottles while working.
Bali Regional Secretary Dewa Made Indra said that this rule was a real step in realizing a cleaner and more sustainable Bali.
"This policy aims to ensure that all regional apparatus, BUMD, and schools in Bali actually apply restrictions on the use of single-use plastic," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 21.
The Bali Provincial Government has launched Circular Letter Number 2 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of Bali Governor Regulation Number 97 of 2018 concerning Restrictions on the One-use Plastic Spice Timbulan.
In its distribution, Dewa Indra prohibits all agencies from providing drinking water in plastic packages and food in plastic packaging, instead they are required to bring a private drink bottle with the recommendation of using a stainless bottle or plastic certificate BPA Free.
"It is not allowed to provide drinking water in plastic packages, both glass and bottle sizes, and it is not allowed to provide food, cakes, or snacks in plastic packaging, both in the workspace and in meetings, meetings, or other ceremonial events," he said.
The Bali Regional Secretary also said that this policy also applies to all participants in education and training (diklat) within the Bali Provincial Government, including participants who come from outside the Bali Provincial Government.
"All participants in the training are required to bring personal tumblers to meet drinking needs during the activity," said Dewa Indra.
Departing from the directives given to employees in schools, Dewa Indra wants this positive policy to be transmitted to students.
He asked school principals and teachers within the Bali Provincial Government to become role models for students in using drinking bottles to reduce plastic waste sourced from plastic food and beverage packaging.
To ensure the effectiveness of the policy which will take effect on February 3, 2025, the Bali Provincial Government has instructed all regional apparatus leaders, BUMD, and school principals to supervise and control in each agency.
"We hope that this policy can be carried out with full responsibility by all relevant parties in order to create a greener and more sustainable Bali," said Dewa Indra.
