JAKARTA - Member of Commission IV DPR from PKS, Riyono proposed the formation of a special committee (special committee) to investigate the problem of the sea fence in Tangerang waters. This proposal emerged in response to the polemic of the construction of a mysterious 30-kilometer sea fence near the location of PSN PIK 2.
Riyono conveyed the proposal in his interruption at the DPR plenary meeting, Tuesday, January 21.
According to Riyono, this marine fencing case is a tangible picture of the lack of maximum national marine management. He also highlighted Article 33 paragraph 3 of the 1945 Constitution which emphasized that natural resources are controlled by the state for the welfare of the people.
Riyono emphasized that the use of marine space must prioritize the interests of fishermen who depend on the sea. However, he said, sea fencing that is currently happening is actually done without paying attention to state institutions and hampering access to fishermen and creating inequality in the use of marine resources.
"Based on various regulations and principles of justice that have been mentioned, the PKS faction proposes to ask the leadership of the DPR to form a Special Committee related to the case of sea fencing to support more responsible marine space governance efforts," said Riyono in the plenary meeting room.
The East Java electoral district PKS legislator also urged the government to protect the rights of coastal communities, especially fishermen by ensuring they still have access to sea without obstacles due to illegal sea fencing.
Riyono also asked the government to thoroughly investigate cases of sea fencing so as not to set a bad precedent in law enforcement efforts and maritime governance in Indonesia.
"Strict action against parties involved in illegal fencing must be taken in order to maintain justice and sustainability in the national fisheries sector," said Riyono.
