Shell Bintaro Gas Station Robbery, Police: The Perpetrator Turns Out To Be A Former Employee

TANGERANG Police managed to reveal the identity of the robber at Shell Bintaro Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU), Pondok Aren, South Tangerang. Apparently, the perpetrator named Imam Akbar (IA) was a former employee at the gas station, who had served as Chief Manager in the 2016-2021 period.

The South Tangerang Police Chief, AKBP Victor Inkiriwang, explained that the suspect had long observed the location and knew the work schedule of employees at the gas station.

"This suspect has made observations of the location and knows well the schedule of the employees who worked at the time of the incident," Victor said in a statement to reporters, Saturday, January 19.

In the action, the perpetrator acted alone and carried a weapon that looked like a gun, but it turned out to be just a match.

Victor added that before carrying out the robbery, the suspect had conducted a survey at the gas station for a week, precisely on December 23, 2024, to find out the employee's work schedule on New Year's Eve.

"The perpetrator prepared well, he conducted a week-long survey to ensure the right time to take action," explained the Police Chief.

In the end, the perpetrator managed to rob Rp60 million in cash at the Shell gas station. Not only that, he also took the cellphone belonging to the employee who witnessed the action.

Fortunately, the police were able to uncover this robbery and managed to arrest Imam Akbar on Thursday, January 9, 2025, when the perpetrator was returning from work in the Bintaro area.

"We managed to secure the perpetrator in the Bintaro area after he finished work," said Victor.

For his actions, Imam Akbar was charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding violent theft, which threatened the perpetrator with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
