JAKARTA - The 501/BY Yonif Task Force on duty in Maybrat Regency, West Papua managed to persuade the Deputy Chairperson of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) Kodap IV/Sorong Raya, HK, and his family to surrender to the TNI on Tuesday (14/1)

This can happen thanks to the humane persuasive efforts made by the Battalion 501/BY Task Force under the leadership of Lt. Col. Inf. Yakhya Wisnu Ariyanto.

HK is a member of the OPM who was involved in the attack on Posramil Kampung Kisor, Maybrat Regency, West Papua, on September 2, 2021. As a result of the attack, four members of the TNI died, including the Commander of Posramil.

Reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 16, the process of HK's surrender began when the 501/BY Infantry Battalion Task Force Fuog Post led by First Lieutenant Inf Fanno received a report from a former OPM member that HK and his family wanted to surrender.

After receiving the report, Lieutenant Fanno immediately reported it to Lieutenant Colonel Inf. Yakhya. The next day, members of the TNI immediately picked up HK at the end of Foug village.

After surrendering, HK and his family underwent a medical examination and brief interviews to collect personal data.

"The results of the examination confirmed that HK was one of the DPOs related to the attack on Posramil Kampung Kisor," said a press release from the Indonesian Army.

HK's wife and children were immediately sent back to Sorry Village to meet the extended family.

"This process is also coordinated with the Maybrat Police Chief to determine the next legal steps, where HK is then handed over to the Maybrat Regency Government for further legal proceedings," explained the press release.

Yakhya ensured that this incident became a momentum to reinforce the TNI's efforts to maintain sovereignty and security in a humane way in Papua.
