JAKARTA - Japan again asked China to lift the ban on imports of seafood food when ruling parties from the two countries continued their annual dialogue for the first time since 2018.

Beijing imposed a ban on total imports of Japanese seafood products after Tokyo began releasing radioactive water that had been processed into the sea in August 2023.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Tuesday, January 14, the petition was delivered when lawmakers from the Liberal Democratic Party and Komieito Japan made their official visits to Beijing and met their partners from the Chinese Communist Party.

In September 2024, China said it would gradually continue imports of Japanese seafood.

This marks the first time since October 2018 that both parties have continued dialogue between parties.

Hiro Moriyama, Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party, also asked China to ensure the safety of Japanese citizens living there.

During the meeting, the Chinese delegation was led by the Head of the PKC International Department Liu Jianchao.

The dialogue between the ruling parties in China and Japan began in 2006 but was suspended since 2018 due to deteriorating bilateral relations and the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the two countries recently took steps to stabilize their bilateral relationship with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expected to visit Japan next month and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya visited China last month.
