JAKARTA - The United States (US) government of Joe Biden sees a possible ceasefire in Gaza as soon as this week.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told Bloomberg News that there was no guarantee both sides would agree to the deal.

Sullivan explained the Joe Biden administration had been in contact with President Donald Trump's team and had sought to unite on the matter ahead of Washington's transition to power on January 20.

"The increasing pressure here towards the end of President Biden's term of office is enormous," Sullivan said.

Biden will leave office next week after the Democratic Party loses seats in the White House in the November elections, and handed back the US administration to Trump and his Republican counterparts, who will control both rooms in Congress.

Envoys Biden and Trump attended weekend talks on a potential deal.

"The question now is: Can we all collectively take advantage of this moment and make it happen," Sullivan told Bloomberg, stressing Biden had directed it to work with the team to come.
