JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that one landslide victim in Sekupang, Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri), was missing and is still in the process of being searched by a joint team of officers until Monday evening.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said the victim was one of four victims who were reported missing after a landslide occurred in the early hours of this morning at around 01.30 WIB.
"Meanwhile, of the four missing victims, three people have been found dead, and one more person is still being sought," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 13.
One heavy equipment in the form of excavators was deployed to maximize this search and rescue effort.
In addition, the rapid reaction team of the Batam City BPBD, TNI, Polri, local Basarnas is currently handling as many as five injured victims and evacuating eight other affected victims.
The five injured victims were rushed by officers to BP Batam Hospital for immediate medical treatment for their injuries. Meanwhile, eight people are confirmed to have been evacuated to a safe place.

BNPB has not received a detailed report from a joint team of officers in the field regarding the identities of the victims, but has confirmed that they are residents of Tiban Batu Village, Sekupang District, Batam City, Riau Islands.
"There were five houses in the area that were heavily damaged in the landslide incident which was triggered by heavy rain," he said.
He ensured that the joint officers would still be on standby at the scene to carry out all disaster emergency efforts, and anticipate the impact of subsequent landslides due to the potential for high intensity rain and accompanied by lightning to flush Batam for the next two days.
