JAKARTA - The South Korean authorities plan to repair the structure of the transmitter building that guides the plane landing at the airport.
This decision was taken after the evaluation of the fatal crash of the Jeju Air plane that slipped from the runway and caught fire after hitting the concrete barrier in the runway area.
The South Korean transport ministry, which has been checking safety conditions at airlines and airports since Boeing 737-800 crashed at the southwestern airport of Muan, announced steps to change the structure of the emitter that guides the aircraft aka localizer on Monday, January 13.
Reported by Reuters on Monday, January 13, seven domestic airports, including Muan, were found to have a foundation made of concrete or steel that needed to be changed.
South Korea will prepare steps to improve structure this month and aim to complete repairs by the end of 2025. However, it does not provide details regarding the planned fix.

Aviation safety experts criticized the placement of concrete barriers at Muan airport regarding the Jeju Air accident that killed 179 of the 181 people inside.
The government has also completed inspections of six domestic airlines flying the Boeing 737-800.
Violations were found in several operators including exceeding the inspection period before and after the flight, and non-compliance with the procedures for resolving aircraft defects or passengers who boarded the plane.
