JAKARTA - A total of 214 cases of Acute Respiratory Channel Infection (ARI) caused by Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) have been found by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Office (Dinkes) in early January 2025.

"From 2023 to January 2025, we recorded a total of 214 cases of ISPA due to HMPV spread across the Jakarta area," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Office Ani Ruspitawati in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, January 11.

Ani detailed the hundreds of cases, namely 13 cases in 2023, 121 cases in 2024, and 79 cases in 2025.

Therefore, the government invites the public to maintain health and increase awareness of HMPV.

Although several cases have been identified in Jakarta, this situation can be overcome with simple prevention steps and proper handling.

"We want to emphasize that people play a role in preventing, such as maintaining hand hygiene, eating healthy, and using masks when sick to prevent transmission," he said.

Moreover, his party continues to monitor public health conditions through community-based health education programs, as well as providing easily understood information about HMPV symptoms and early handling steps.

This is realized by counseling at schools involving students, teachers, and parents in understanding the importance of personal and environmental hygiene.

"This education is carried out through interactive activities, such as simulations of washing hands and providing information on how to maintain endurance. In addition, counseling activities in the community are also often carried out through posyandu, puskesmas, community groups, and health cadres," he said.

As a form of vigilance, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Office has also stepped up efforts to find ARI cases in collaboration with hospitals and examination laboratories.

"From the results of examinations of respiration panels in several hospitals and laboratories, the dominance of the virus found was Rhinovirus, Influenza AH3, Respiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV) A+B, Influenza A 135 specimens, Influenza B 134 specimens, Influenza H1N1 pdm09 128 specimens, and HMPV of 23 types of agents or microorganisms that can cause ARI," he explained.

He also invited all people in Jakarta to jointly raise awareness in preventing respiratory tract infections.

If there are symptoms such as cough, runny nose, or continuous fever, the public is advised to immediately consult with the nearest health worker.

It is ensured that health service facilities in DKI Jakarta Province are ready to serve the community.

"Together we create a healthy and safe Jakarta environment from disease," he said.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Office in collaboration with the Indonesian Pediatrician Association and the ISPA Working Team of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia will hold a webinar in general "You Know More closely with ARI and Pneumonia Diseases to Prevent them".
