Fires In North Jakarta Throughout 2024, 279 Incidents Were Recorded

The North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) released data on the recapitulation of fire events throughout 2024.

Head of the Operational Section of the North Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman, revealed that there were 279 fire incidents in North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands, down 27% compared to 2023 which recorded 379 incidents.

"The most fires occurred in residents' homes, with a total of 94 incidents. Followed by business premises (53 incidents), factories (5 incidents), and vehicles (26 incidents). Meanwhile, other categories include installations outside the building (27 incidents), plant areas (18 incidents), stalls (6 incidents), garbage (39 incidents), and other objects (11 incidents)," explained Gatot, Thursday, December 2.

The main cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit with 158 incidents. Throughout 2024, the fire caused six fatalities and ten people were injured. The total material loss is estimated at IDR 80.43 billion.

In terms of region, Penjaringan District recorded the most cases with 61 incidents, followed by Cilincing (52 cases), Tanjung Priok (53 cases), Kelapa Gading (43 cases), Koja (29 cases), and Pademangan (19 cases). Meanwhile, in the Thousand Islands, there were 11 incidents in the North Thousand Islands District and 10 incidents in the South Thousand Islands District.

With the downward trend in the number of fires, Gatot emphasized the importance of vigilance, especially in terms of electrical installations, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
