BPBD: Public Facilities In Central Lombok Damaged Due To Extreme Weather

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara noted that a number of public facilities such as roads and positions were damaged due to extreme weather that occurred at the end of 2024 and early 2025.

"There are three vehicles damaged by extreme weather or flood disasters in Central Lombok," said Central Lombok BPBD Head Ridwan Ma'ruf in Central Lombok, Antara, Thursday, January 2.

In addition to destroying the vehicles in the Pujut and Praya Barat sub-districts, the heavy rain that occurred from December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025 also caused landslides in the Batukliang, East Praya, and Janapria sub-districts.

"For material losses due to extreme weather, an assessment is being carried out," he said.

He said heavy rain accompanied by strong winds also damaged 32 houses in the Semoyang Village area, East Praya District, but there were no casualties in the hydrometeorological disaster.

"There were two residents who suffered fractures due to being hit by the roof of the house which was damaged by a tornado," he said.

"A number of houses were also flooded, but the current conditions are normal," he added.

For logistical assistance, community needs have been given directly after the incident such as ready-to-eat food and other necessities.

"We have provided emergency assistance," he said.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the opportunity for potential rain in early 2025 in the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province was still high.

"The public is expected to remain vigilant," said BMKG forecaster at the West Nusa Tenggara Climatology Station, Angga Permana.

BMKG stated that on the basis of January 2025 (1 January 10, 2025) there is an opportunity for rainfall of more than 100 millimeters/basis in most areas in NTB Province with a probability of 60 to 90 percent.

Then there is also a chance of rainfall of more than 150 millimeters/basis that occurs in parts of western Lombok.

"A small part of Sumbawa and Tambora with a probability of 40-60 percent," he said.
