Edhy Prabowo Receives KPK Indictment, Judge: Thank You No Objection Note

JAKARTA - Former Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo through his legal advisory team decided not to file a memorandum of objection or exception. Thus, this trial will go directly to the evidentiary stage.

This decision was taken by Edhy Prabowo's team of lawyers after the panel of judges questioned whether or not there was a response from the indictment read by the public prosecutor (JPU).

"After we discussed with the defendant, we concluded that both the defendant and the legal counsel did not object", said Edhy Prabowo's lawyer, Soesilo Aribowo in the trial, Thursday, April 15.

Responding to the matter, presiding judge Albertus Usada said with no submission of this exception, a further hearing was decided in the witness examination.

Thus, the trial of the alleged bribery case for the export licence fry will continue on Wednesday, April 21.

"Thank you for the defendant who did not submit a memorandum of objection then continued with the evidentiary examination", he said

Edhy Prabowo is accused of taking bribes amounting to IDR25.7 billion. This bribe relates to the export permit of lobster seed or fry.

"Doing or participating in some acts that should be seen as stand-alone deeds so that it is a few crimes, has received gifts or promises", said the prosecutor read out the indictment at the Corruption Court, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 15.

The bribe was received by Edhy Prabowo from exporters through Amiril Mukminin, Safri, Ainul Faqih, Andreau Misanta Pribadi, and Siswadhi Pranoto Loe.

Through his staff, Edhy received a bribe of $77 thousand or if the current amount reached IDR1,126,921,950 from the owner of PT Dua Putera Perkasa Pratama (PT DPP), Suharjito.

Then, Edhy also received money amounting to IDR24,625,587,250.

By accepting the bribe, Edhy was charged with violating Article 11 of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes jo Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code jo Article 65 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
