JAKARTA - Russia arrested an Uzbekistann resident who claimed to have planted and detonated a bomb that killed Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov in Moscow the day before on instructions from the Ukrainian security service.
Kirillov, head of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Forces, was killed outside his apartment with his assistant when a bomb hidden inside an electric scooter exploded. He is the most senior Russian military officer killed in Russia by Ukraine.
The Ukrainian SBU intelligence agency, which accuses Kirillov of being responsible for the use of chemical weapons against Ukrainian troops, has claimed responsibility for the killing.
As reported by Reuters on Wednesday, December 18, the Russian Investigative Committee said the unnamed suspect admitted that he had come to Moscow to carry out his duties at the Ukrainian intelligence agency.
In the confession video published by news outlet Baza, the suspect was seen sitting in the van describing his actions.
The suspect said he came to Moscow on orders from the Ukrainian intelligence agency, bought an electric scooter, and later received a homemade explosive device to carry out the attack months later.
The suspect explained how he put the device on an electric scooter parked outside the entrance to the apartment block where Kirillov lives.
The perpetrator installed surveillance cameras in a rental car nearby.
The suspect admitted that he detonated the bomb remotely after Kirillov left the building.
In his confession, the suspect said Ukraine offered him 100,000 US dollars.
