JAKARTA - The Indonesian government is finalizing negotiations with the governments of Australia, the Philippines and France regarding the repatriation of their citizens who were sentenced to criminal acts in Indonesia.
In a limited cabinet meeting, the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said President Prabowo Subianto ordered the ranks to respond to requests from a number of countries regarding the repatriation of their citizens who were convicted in Indonesia.
"Three countries have submitted to our governments, namely the Philippines, Australia, and France. And we are making a lot of progress in this regard. Yusril explained that the agreement between the Government of Indonesia and the Philippines was carried out with a "prectical agreement" for the repatriation of prisoners from Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Government is still finalizing negotiations with Australia which are expected to be completed in the near future.
"So this issue can be said at the level of government with the Philippines is final, with Australia 'on process'. Hopefully in the next few days, the next week it can be resolved and will be realized soon," said Yusril.
Yusril said the agreement to repatriate prisoners with the French government and other countries submitting applications was still being investigated and analyzed.
According to Yusril, whether or not the repatriation of prisoners was granted requires a coordinated investigation with other law enforcement agencies, such as the Attorney General and the National Police Chief.
"All of this has made a lot of progress, it will be realized in the near future. Hopefully, in December everything will be finished," said Yusril.
