KPU Still Looking For Solutions For Regions Not Completed Recapitulation Of Pilkada Votes

Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) Mochammad Afifuddin said that his institution had prepared a solution for areas whose regional election recapitulation had not been completed.

"Seeing areas whose challenges are security, local conflicts, we expect the KPU (Regional KPU) to communicate with all parties so that there is no violence on the sidelines of recapitulation," said Afifuddin at the KPU RI Office, Jakarta, Friday, December 13, confiscated by Amtara.

However, he reminded the Regional KPU to prioritize and still pay attention to the safety of the organizers and residents when the recapitulation was about to be carried out.

Furthermore, he said that if the regional situation remained unfavorable, the Indonesian KPU advised the Regional KPU to move the recapitulation location to a place that was considered safe.

"With consideration and communication with the parties, the Police and the TNI for security, then with Bawaslu (Electronal Supervisory Agency), and witnesses of candidate pairs," he said.

Finally, he said that if the situation was not conducive, then the recapitulation at the district/city level could be taken over by the Provincial KPU.

"Every day we communicate intensively related to this. Of course, we all want the entire recapitulation process to be completed immediately, and then we determine who won the regional elections, and for the next process the follow-up processes, lawsuits, and so on can be carried out," he said.

Meanwhile, he said that the Indonesian KPU would continue to encourage the Regional KPU to complete the recapitulation in accordance with the set deadline.

"We provide a deadline for recaps for districts that is maximum on December 14, then for provinces on December 16. This is part of our exit strategy to then seek at the deadline in accordance with our plan, the announcement is on December 16, the maximum, so that when December 14, districts/cities have been completed, there are still two days to carry out plenary recapitulation at the provincial level," he said.

On that occasion, he explained that several areas that had not finished recapitulating due to security issues and local dynamics were Mamberamo Raya, Jayapura, Lanny Jaya, Tolikara, Puncak, Puncak Jaya, and Paniai. These areas are scattered in Papua Province, Papua Mountains, and Central Papua.
