Sukabumi Regent Asks BMKG To Modify The Weather To Accelerate Disaster Management

"We have sent an official letter to the BMKG regarding a request for weather modification to reduce the intensity of rain in the Sukabumi Regency area," Marwan said, quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, December 11.

Marwan said the implementation of the weather modification was still waiting for the schedule determined by the BMKG. He hopes that this process can be carried out as soon as possible so that the rain can be controlled, so that disaster management efforts can run more optimally.

This weather modification aims to accelerate the process of evacuating victims, distributing aid, opening isolated road access, and preventing the spread of the impact of hydrometeorological disasters.

This technique is carried out through cloud seeding using certain chemicals by airplane, which can affect the intensity and distribution of rain.

Since the hydrometeorological disaster hit on Wednesday, December 4, the impact has been felt in 39 sub-districts out of a total of 47 sub-districts in Sukabumi Regency.

Hingga Selasa, tercatat sebanyak 13.837 warga terdampak, dengan 2.988 jiwa di antaranya terpaksa mengungsi. Sebanyak 10 warga meninggal dunia, sementara dua orang lainnya masih dinyatakan hilang. Selain itu, 790 jiwa lainnya berada dalam kondisi terancam.

Bencana ini juga menyebabkan kerusakan parah pada infrastruktur, dengan 1.428 unit rumah mengalami rusak berat, 1.201 rusak sedang, dan 1.272 rusak ringan. Selain itu, terdapat 653 rumah yang terancam rusak, serta 1.169 unit lainnya terendam air.

With the modification of the weather, Marwan hopes that the intensity of rain can be reduced so that recovery efforts for affected residents can be carried out immediately.
