JAKARTA - Belarusian president confirmed his country already has nuclear weapons, saying weapons of the type carry a major responsibility, warning that violations of state boundaries cannot be accepted.

President Alexander Lukashenko has confirmed Belarus has a nuclear weapon, insisting it's not just a joke.

"I have deployed nuclear warheads here. Dozens of warheads," President Lukashenko said as he visited Borisov City, citing TASS from the news agency BeltA December 10.

"Many say this is a joke and no one does anything. Yes, we do. And the fact they (opponents) say this is a joke means they have caught me. They ignore how we got them here," he continued.

Commenting on the plan to deploy a non-nuclear Russian Orestnik missile system to Belarus, he noted that the use of this type of high-power weapon carries great responsibility.

"Since Hiroshima and memancing, no one has ever pressed the nuclear button. Even big countries, let alone Belarus," he said, adding he had warned his "hosts, 'friends,' and rivals" about the inacceptability of Belarusian state border violations.

According to previous reports, Moscow announced plans to deploy its tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus at the request of the country, similar to what the United States has long been doing in its allied territory.

Moscow provides Minsk with an Iskander tactical missile system capable of carrying nuclear weapons and helps Minsk to equip its aircraft to carry special weapons.

It was also reported that most of the warheads were already in Belarus. At the end of April 2024 President Lukashenko said Russia had deployed several dozen.
