JAKARTA - Chairman of the Prosecutor's Commission (Komjak) Barita Simanjuntak admitted that the performance of the Attorney General has improved but still needs strengthening.

"The development of prosecutorial performance is now getting better, but there needs to be significant strengthening," Barita said in a discussion "The Prosecutor's Bill, the Commitment of the House of Representatives to Strengthen the Performance of the Adhyaksa Corps" at the House of Representatives, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 13.

According to him, it is fitting that the Adhyaksa Corps has strong authority. Because, this institution is the executor of state power in the field of prosecution.

"So, it is appropriate if the House strengthens the prosecutor through the discussion of the Prosecutor's Bill," said Barita.

He said that sometimes prosecutors do face dilemmas and are often squeezed into two major law enforcement forces, namely the police and judiciary.

However, barita said, the constitution does not explicitly mention that prosecutors as a power that also exists in the institution of the court.

"It does not matter if this is regulated implementation in this new bill, because azas dominus litis is a universal principle that the prosecutor who determines whether or not a case can be submitted to the court," explained Barita.

In addition, according to him, an effective surveillance system is also needed. "Not to impede performance, but to confirm that all tasks and authorities are executed correctly, there is no abuse of power in order to be transparent and integrity," explained Barita.

Therefore, in the future prosecutors must actively control the case to provide guidelines and instructions. This is important in order to eliminate the sectoral ego.

"So that when a criminal act has begun the investigation process, then when it can also actively provide instructions, the direction so that this does not go back and forth the case does not occur efficiency, but azas justice quickly, simple and light costs," said Barita.
