Macron Invites French Political Party Chairmans To The Palace, Discusses Formation Of Government

French President Emmanuel Macron invited party chairmen in France to attend a meeting at the Elysee Palace on Tuesday, December 10 afternoon.

They will discuss efforts to map the path to a new government since French Prime Minister Michel Barnier was ousted in a disbelieving motion.

"The goal is to move forward with an agreement on the method" to build a new government on the foundations of an unstable parliament, people close to Macron said late Monday, December 19, quoted by AFP, Tuesday, December 10.

French Prime Minister Barnier was previously backed by the conservative Republican Party and the Macron centrist camp, but the coalition faltered and did not get a significant vote from the majority of the overall members of the National Assembly.

Until now, it is still unknown how Macron will build a basis for his support in the National Assembly to form a new government.

A number of parties keep their distance from Macrons such as the extreme right-handed National Rally (RN), the extreme left-handed France Unbowed (LFI), and the Greens.

Green Party leader Marine Tondelier said his party had taken a stand not to compromise on issues reflecting the Republican Party.

"We will not participate in a government that is 'nationally interested' with Republicans or Macronists or anyone else," Tolelier said on Monday.

In a letter on Sunday evening, the elites of the Socialist Party told Macron that they were open to mitigating to find a way out of the deadlock they thought was detrimental to the French people.

However, the Socialist Party added, it will not join a technocratic government or that is run by the prime minister from the right wing, and calls for a "real political change" in the rules of "retirement, purchasing power, and tax justice."

The conservative daily Leatur said that if Macron brought many parties together on one table then progress had been made to reach consensus after an impromptu election in July.
