Jusuf Kalla Is Re-elected As General Chair Of PMI For The 2024-2029 Period

The 2nd Plenary Session of the 22nd National Conference (Munas) of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) 2024 approved the accountability report of PMI General Chair Jusuf Kalla and unanimously asked him to return to serve as General Chair of PMI for the 2024-2029 period.

This decision was taken after the majority of National Conference participants consisting of PMI officials at the provincial, district and city levels throughout Indonesia gave full support to Jusuf Kalla.

The chairman of PMI West Java, Adang Rocjana, said that of the 490 participants present, representing 34 PMI provinces and one National Volunteer Forum (Forelnas), the majority expressed positive support for Jusuf Kalla's accountability report and supported him to return to lead PMI.

"The majority of participants gave a positive response to the PMI General Chair accountability report and supported Jusuf Kalla to return to lead PMI," said Adang, who chaired the second plenary session.

According to a credential committee report, although there are two candidates for general chairman, namely Agung Laksono and Jusuf Kalla, only Jusuf Kalla is eligible and has the support of more than 50 percent of the number of delegates who are entitled to attend. Therefore, he was appointed as the sole candidate and re-elected as the General Chair of PMI.

In his report, Jusuf Kalla conveyed various achievements of PMI during his leadership, including support in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, emergency response at disaster sites, climate change adaptation programs, and humanitarian actions in Gaza.

With this achievement, the National Conference participants hope that Jusuf Kalla can continue his contribution in strengthening the role of PMI both at the national and international levels.
