Prabowo Signs Law on Changes to Job Nomenclature, from Governor of DKI Jakarta to DKJ

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto signed Law Number 151 of 2024 which regulates changes in the nomenclature of positions in the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) Province after the 2024 simultaneous regional elections.

The Legal Documentation and Information Network of the Ministry of State Secretariat in Jakarta, Saturday, reported that the provisions were contained in a copy of Law Number 151 of 2024 as an Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning DKJ which was ratified by President Prabowo in Jakarta on November 30, 2024.

"When this Law comes into effect, the Governor and Deputy Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta Province resulting from the 2024 Election of Governor and Deputy Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, are declared to be the Governor and Deputy Governor of the Special Region of Jakarta Province," said an excerpt from Article 70-B quoting Antara.

A derivative of the article explains that the positions previously attached to the DKI Jakarta Province have now been changed to the Special Region of Jakarta Province. This change includes the positions of governor, deputy governor, members of the DPRD, DPR, and DPD.

The law also includes the determination of the status of officials from the 2024 Election, namely the governor and deputy governor from the 2024 Regional Election for DKI Jakarta are now the governor and deputy governor of the DKJ Province.

Members of the DPRD, DPR, and DPD from the DKI Jakarta electoral district are also automatically adjusted to the new nomenclature.

Although Jakarta no longer has the status of the nation's capital, Article II of the Law states that the official transfer of the capital from Jakarta to the Indonesian Capital City, East Kalimantan, is still awaiting the President's decision.

"The Presidential Decree regarding the transfer of the Capital City of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia from the Special Capital Region of Jakarta Province to the Indonesian Capital City will be determined later," reads an excerpt from Article II.

In the general explanation of this law, changes were made to provide legal certainty regarding Jakarta's new status.

Previously, Law Number 2 of 2024 was considered not to have explicitly regulated changes in the nomenclature of positions and government status in Jakarta after the transfer of the capital city.
