JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) received complaints from the legal team and the wife of Thomas Trikasih Lembong or Tom Lembong regarding the alleged arbitrariness of the determination of the suspect by the Attorney General's Office.

"We certainly have to study this case because we just received an audience request 2 days ago," said Komnas HAM member for Complaints Hari Kurniawan as reported by ANTARA, Friday, December 6.

In accordance with existing provisions, said Hari, the complaint service at Komnas HAM will be handled for 7 working days. According to him, Komnas HAM is currently receiving it first before analyzing the completeness of evidence from the legal and family authorities.

"We will handle the incoming complaint or 7 working days, meaning for 10 days, because Saturday and Sunday are off," he said.

Hari said the complaints from the attorney and family were related to allegations of arbitrariness and discrimination by the Attorney General's Office against Tom Lembong in a corruption case of sugar imports.

Based on their complaints, he continued, when the examination was not in accordance with the provisions, even without an investigation letter (sprindik), the commission suddenly named him a suspect.

"After that, they were immediately detained so that they concluded that this was an act of arbitrariness and discrimination in the context of access to justice seekers," he said.

Previously, the AGO named two suspects in the case, namely Tom Lembong as Minister of Trade for the 2015'2016 period and CS as Director of Business Development of PT PPI.

The AGO explained that this case began when Tom Lembong as Minister of Trade at that time gave PT AP a permit to import 105,000 tons of raw crystal sugar to be processed into white crystal sugar.

In fact, in the coordination meeting (rakor) between ministries on May 12, 2015, it was concluded that Indonesia was experiencing a sugar surplus so it did not require sugar imports.
