Bad Weather, Transportation Service For Transportation Ships To The Thousand Islands Stopped

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) temporarily suspended water vessels services from and to the Thousand Islands on Thursday, December 5, 2024 due to bad weather.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, explained that the decision was taken based on weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of the Class I Maritime Meteorological Station, Tanjung Priok.

BMKG revealed strong winds with speeds of 8 - 25 knots accompanied by light rain in the Muara Angke - Thousand Islands crossing area on December 4 to 5, 2024.

"Based on BMKG information, unfriendly weather conditions can endanger shipping activities," said Syafrin in his statement, Thursday, December 5.

Syafrin emphasized that the temporary suspension of this ship's services was to ensure sea transportation security while at the same time supporting the safety of all residents and tourists traveling from and to the Thousand Islands.

The Class IV Harbormaster Office and Port Authority (KSOP) Muara Angke also recommended delaying the active shipping of the Transportation Agency until the weather was conducive again. Therefore, the service of the Transportation Agency ship for this route has been temporarily suspended," he explained.

Furthermore, Syafrin appealed to the public to continue to monitor the development of weather information and rearrange their travel schedule.

"We urge the public, especially those planning to travel to the Thousand Islands, to postpone travel until weather conditions improve. Safety is a top priority," he added.
