The Transfer Of Cipinang Prison Prisoners To Nusakambangan Because Prisons And Detention Centers In Jakarta Have Exceeded Capacity

JAKARTA - Head of the Correctional Division of the DKI Jakarta Regional Office, Tony Nainggolan, said that the transfer of 61 Cipinang prison inmates to Nusakambangan Prison was carried out to reduce the number of inmates from overcapacity in the prison.

In addition, the transfer of prisoners from prisons in Jakarta to Nusakambangan Prison has also been carried out several times.

According to Tony, the capacity of prisoners in DKI Jakarta can only accommodate 5,500 people. However, currently, the number has passed up to 3 times.

"Now there are 14,400 compositions, so over (more) about 300 percent," Tony said when confirmed, Thursday, December 5.

Tony said that the transfer of prisoners outside the DKI Jakarta area had been carried out several times.

"Until now, we have transferred 735 people, including Nusakambangan and the Central Java, West Java and Banten areas," he said.

In addition to moving prisoners to Cipinang Prison, Tony has also transferred prisoners several times, including from the Salemba Rutan.

Previously, it was reported that as many as 61 heavyweight prisoners were transferred from the Cipinang Prison in East Jakarta to the Nusakambangan Prison in Cilacap, Central Java on Thursday, December 5, early in the morning.

Those who were transferred were heavyweight inmates with life sentences to the death penalty.
