JAKARTA - Russian drones attacked critical infrastructure in the Ternopil and Rivne regions of western Ukraine overnight.

The attack left some of Ternopil's cities without power, a week after Moscow's attacks cut off electricity in most cities and surrounding areas.

"Energy and rescue workers are eliminating the impact of the attack. Water supply, charge your phone," said Mayor Serhiy Nadal.

Ternopil is located about 220 km (135 miles) east of Poland which is a member of NATO.

Russia launched two major attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure in November, prompting blackouts across the country ahead of winter.

The Ukrainian air force said it shot down 22 of the 28 drones fired by Russia overnight. One drone 'lost' and two others left Ukraine-controlled airspace, according to the statement.

Russia is also attacking energy infrastructure in the Rivne region, Governor Oleksandr Koval said. There were no casualties, he added.

Air defenses were also active in the Kyiv area last night, said Ruslan Governor Kravchenko. The debris that fell damaged four residential houses, two cars and a garage.
