Low Voters Participation, RK-Suswono Camp: Jakarta Pilkada Winners Don't Have Strong Legitimation

JAKARTA - Secretary of the Ridwan Kamil-Suswono (RIDO) Winning Team, Basri Baco, stated that the winners of the 2024 Jakarta Regional Head Election (Pilkada) contest will have low legitimacy. The reason is that the participation of the community as voters is only a small part of the total population of Jakarta.

"So the legitimacy of the elected governor or governor candidate is only about a quarter of the DPT who vote, so in our opinion, if this happens, the legitimacy will be very weak," Baco told reporters, Monday, December 2.

This statement is based on internal data and survey institutions, one of which is the Charta Politica survey. It was stated that the Jakarta regional elections were only attended by 58 percent of the final voter list. This means that there are 42 percent of voters who do not use their voting rights or Golput.

The KPU has also agreed that the decline in the number of voters participating in the Jakarta regional elections is lower than during the 2024 presidential election (pilpres).

"Based on temporary data, from 7 million or 8 million or maybe 9 million people, there is a DPT from Jakarta of approximately 8 million who choose only half, only half who chooses. And the winner if it has to be 50 percent plus 1 means a quarter," explained Baco.

One of the reasons for the decline in the number of voters, said Baco, is that the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS) is unprofessional in distributing C6 letters. Thus, many people cannot exercise their voting rights.

"What does this mean? The incompetentness of regional election organizers, the unprofessionalism of regional election organizers, especially PPS and KPPS," he said.

Therefore, Baco said he would report the General Elections Commission (KPU) to the Honorary Council of General Election Organizers (DKPP). The report was on suspicion of unprofessionalism.

"We will report to the DKPP regarding the unprofessionalism of the KPU in carrying out its main duties and responsibilities in the Pilkada," said Baco.
