Elderly Found Dead Stuck In Sukabumi Hydropower Dam

SUKABUMI Sukabumi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) officers evacuated the body of an elderly man who was found caught in an Ubrug hydropower dam, Cukuya Village, Tenjojaya Village, Cibadak District, Sukabumi Regency, on Tuesday.

"We received reports from residents and coordinated with the Cibadak Police regarding the discovery of the body of a man who was involved in the Ubrug hydropower dam," said Sukabumi Regency BPBD staff, Beki Supriatna, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 3.

According to Beki, the body of the man, who was initially unidentified, was found swollen, allegedly due to being in the water for too long. The man was wearing colorful patterned trousers and t-shirts. His body was evacuated to Sekarwangi Hospital Cibadak for further examination.

The evacuation process had faced problems due to the swift flow of water and the position of the body stuck in the filter filter filter filtering the dam waste. However, the team managed to bring the body to the mainland to be handed over to the authorities.

Tenjojaya Village Head, Jamaludin Azis, said no local residents recognized the body or reported the loss of family members. "We have coordinated with all RWs in Tenjolaya Village, but there are no reports of residents missing family members," he said.

Hours after the discovery, a resident from Nagrak District came to admit that he had lost his family members. After being examined, the body was confirmed to be Sodin (80), a resident of Nagrak Village, South Nagrak Village, Nagrak District.

The victim's family recognized Sodin's body from special characteristics, namely a broken left-handed thumb and a birth certificate on the chest. The victim was reported missing three days earlier after saying goodbye to the family at 04.00 WIB to go somewhere.

Although there was a wound on the victim's neck, the family rejected the autopsy process and accepted this incident as a disaster. "The family has been sincere and refused an autopsy," said Ipda Already Sandha Purba, Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cibadak Police.

The Sukabumi Police will continue to investigate this case to ensure that there is no element of a criminal act related to the victim's death.
