BPBD Modified Weather For 3 Days In Jakarta Prevents Floods During Pilkada Vocation

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) implements Weather Modification Technology (TMC) from 26-28 November 2024.

The Head of BPBD DKI Jakarta Province Isnawa Adji explained that TMC is a mitigation effort to reduce high rainfall that has the potential to trigger flooding, especially in strategic areas and polling areas during the 2024 Pilkada.

"This program also aims to overcome the impact of the rain from 13 rivers passing through DKI Jakarta, which is mostly influenced by weather conditions in Banten and West Java Provinces," said Isnawa in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 26, as quoted by Antara.

This activity is the result of coordination between BPBD, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and various related parties.

This TMC is also the first in Indonesia to finance the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). This shows DKI Jakarta's commitment in tackling disaster risks independently and innovatively.

The implementation of the TMC is scheduled to last for three days, including pre, day H and post-voting.

This activity is carried out by seeding clouds using certain materials to trigger rain in predetermined areas so as to divert rainfall from flood-prone areas.

BPBD DKI Jakarta also appealed to the public to remain vigilant against weather changes and follow the latest developments through official channels. BPBD emergency services can be contacted through number 112.

With this collaboration, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is optimistic that it can make the implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Elections successful without weather disturbances, while at the same time maintaining the safety of citizens from disaster risk.
