Mount Ibu Erupts Again, Launches Abu As High As 1.2 Kilometers

TERNATE - The Mother's Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, reported on Monday (25/11) afternoon at around 17.06 WIT erupted again by launching a 1.2-kilometer-high ash above the top of the mountain.

"The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the Southwest," said PGA Ibu Post officer in West Halmahera Regency, Richard Chaniago as reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 25.

The eruption of Mount Ibu was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of approximately 1 minute 7 seconds from the PGA Ibu Post in Gam Ici Village, Ibu District.

Currently, the condition of the volcano as high as 1,325 meters above sea level is still at Level III or Alert.

Communities around Mount Ibu and visitors or tourists are asked not to move within a 4 km radius and to expand sectorally 5 km to the crater opening in the northern part of the active crater of the Mount.

"If ash rains, people who are active outside the home are advised to wear masks and glasses, so that they can avoid exposure to the mountain ash," he said.
