4 Online Gambling Players Arrested In East Aceh, Punishment Based On Jinayat Qanun

BANDA ACEH Four online gamblers served caning in the courtyards of the Satpol PP and Wilayatul Hisbah Offices, East Aceh Regency, Idi Rayeuk City, on Friday, November 24.

This sentence is given in accordance with Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law, which regulates sanctions for violations of Maisir's radius (juddial).

The four perpetrators, with the initials AI, MHN, MS, and MD, all residents of East Aceh, received caning in public. AI and MHN each received six lashes, while MS and MD received nine lashes.

The Acting Head of General Crimes Section of the East Aceh District Attorney's Office, M. Iqbal Zakwan, explained that the difference in the number of lashes was caused by the difference in the timing of arrests and other legal factors.

"Basically, the punishment given to them is the same, but there are legal technical factors that make the number of canings different," he said.

After serving a caning sentence, the convicts were declared to have finished serving their sentences and allowed to return to their respective homes.

East Aceh Satpol PP, Teuku Amran, appealed to the public to stay away from acts that violate religious and state law.

"We don't want something like this to happen. However, as law enforcers, the implementation of caning is an obligation in accordance with applicable regulations. Hopefully this will be a lesson for all of us," he said.

The caning sentence in Aceh is a form of implementation of Islamic Sharia which is regulated in Aceh Qanun, which applies to local residents and migrants.
