JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) appreciates the formation of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas). Cooperation between agencies is expected to be established, especially to repatriate corruption suspects who are included in the wanted list (DPO).

This was conveyed by the Temporary Chairperson of the KPK, Nawawi Pomolangi, along with his staff who had an audience with the Ministry of Immimas at the Directorate General of Immigration building, Jakarta, Thursday, November 21.

Initially, Nawawi said the presence of this agency was a strategic step to improve governance in the field of immigration and corrections.

"There are also several tasks from the KPK that intersect with colleagues from the Ministry of Imipas, especially in prosecuting corruption, prevention efforts, and managing detention houses," Nawawi said as quoted from the institution's official statement, Saturday, November 24.

Nawawi also asked the Ministry of Imipas to inform the most recent immigration policies. This request became one of the strategic issues in the closed meeting.

In addition, the Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Rudi Setiawan, said that cooperation with the Ministry of Imipas was also needed to catch fugitives. The hope is that the suspect who fled can be immediately returned to the country.

For information, there are three KPK suspects whose whereabouts are unknown at this time. They are suspects in the bribery case for the interim replacement (PAW) of the DPR RI, Harun Masiku; the suspect in the corruption case of the Electronic KTP (e-KTP) procurement project, Paulus Tannos; and the suspect in the bribery case for the proposed revision of forest conversion in Riau in 2014, Kirana Kotama.

"KPK needs close cooperation with the Ministry of Imipas to arrest and repatriate DPO suspects who are abroad," he said.

Responding to the presence of the anti-corruption commission, Minister Imipas Agus Andrianto ensured that he was ready to support efforts to eradicate corruption carried out by the KPK. "We hope that this synergy can increase the effectiveness of eradicating corruption according to the president's direction," he said.

Even so, there are still things that need to be improved in this inter-agency cooperation, according to the Acting Director General of Immigration, Ministry of Immigration, Saffar Muhamamd Godam. Thus, the prevention carried out on this has a significant impact on efforts to eradicate corruption.

Moreover, hundreds of people have been prevented from leaving the country for the past two years. "By 2023 we have helped 226 prevention abroad," said Saffar.

"And there are 216 prevention (outside the country, ed) in 2024. The existing cooperation agreement is certainly very good but needs to be updated through addendums to adapt to current challenges and needs," he concluded.
