Jokowi Affirms President Prabowo Has Rights To Support Paslon In The 2024 Pilkada

SOLO - Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave a response regarding a video showing President Prabowo Subianto's support for the candidate pairs for governor and deputy governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi and Taj Yasin in the 2024 Central Java gubernatorial election.

Jokowi emphasized that there is nothing wrong with the direction of support given by the president or former president to one of the candidates.

"I have conveyed it, and it has been decided by Bawaslu that Article 229 of Law Number 7 of 2017 is clear. The president and vice president have the right to campaign. Already," said Jokowi during blusukan with the candidate pair for mayor and deputy mayor of Solo, Respati Ardi and Astrid Widayani, in Palang Joglo, Thursday, November 21.

Jokowi's statement is in line with Bawaslu's explanation, which stated that Prabowo's video of support for the Luthfi-Taj Yasin pair did not violate the applicable rules.

Furthermore, Jokowi explained that the support given by President Prabowo was his right as general chairman of the Gerindra Party.

"President Prabowo Subianto is the chairman of the Gerindra Party, who recommends all regional head candidates from the Gerindra Party. Can't support it? Logic, logic only," he added.

As is known, the video uploaded on the Instagram account @ahmadluthfi_official on November 9, 2024 shows Prabowo expressing his support for the Luthfi-Yasin pair.

The 5 minute 39 second video was recorded on November 3, 2024, when Prabowo met Jokowi at his residence.

Related to this, Jokowi was reluctant to provide further explanation.
