Canadian PM Praises Prabowo's Leadership

JAKARTA - The leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who was able to bring Indonesia through various challenges was well praised by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

This was conveyed by PM Trudeau when meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on the sidelines of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (KTT APEC) Summit in Peru, Friday (15/11) local time.

"Mr. President, once again congratulations on your extraordinary leadership over the past few months. It is extraordinary to see Indonesia facing so many big challenges in a positive way," said Trudeau, as in a press release received in Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 16.

On that occasion, Prabowo directly welcomed Trudeau's arrival in the bilateral meeting room, then the two shook hands with each other.

Prabowo said that Indonesia has good relations with Canada that need to be improved again.

"Perdana Menteri terima kasih banyak telah bertemu dengan saya. Indonesia memiliki hubungan yang cukup baik dengan Kanada, kami ingin meningkatkan hubungan ini," kata Prabowo kepada Trudeau.

Prabowo explained that there are many new things that can become points of cooperation later by Indonesia and Canada, such as in the field of digital and renewable energy.

"I think we can work together on other things, such as digital and renewable energy," Prabowo explained.

During the meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by the Presidential Special Advisor for National Resilience/Chairman of the Defense Industry Policy Committee Dudung Abdurrachman, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Major Teddy Indra Wijaya and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.

Meanwhile, Justin was accompanied by Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development Mary Ng, Parliamentary Secretary for Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister of Official Language Marc G. Serré, Parliamentary Secretary for Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development Maninder Sidhu, Canadian Ambassador to Japan and Special Envoy for Indo-Pacific Ian McKay, Chief of Staff, Office of Prime Minister Katie Telford.
