Mount Sinabung Eruption With Hot Clouds Observed 1,000 Meters Away

JAKARTA - The Karo District Disaster Management Agency said Mount Sinabung in Karo Regency, North Sumatra erupted on Friday at 12.00 PM marked by the launch of a observed hot cloud fall with a distance of 1,000 meters to the east and southeast.

"In addition, the observed crater smog is white with medium to thick intensity and high 50-200 meters above the summit of the crater," said Acting Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Karo Regency, Natanail Perangin wind when contacted from Medan, reported Antara, Friday.

He explained, Mount Sinabung is located at an altitude of 2,460 meters above sea level (mdpl).

The weather is sunny and overcast. The wind blows weak to moderate to east and west. The air temperature is 16-26 degrees Celsius.

"The number of falls is 16, with a maximum amplitude of 4-53 mm and a duration of 55-115 seconds," he said.

Currently Mount Sinabung is on Level III (Standby) status with the recommendation of residents and farmers not to do activities in villages whose residents have been relocated and in locations within a radius of three kilometers from the top of the mountain.

In addition, the sectoral radius is at five kilometers for the south-east sector and four kilometers for the east-north sector.

In case of ash rain, people are encouraged to wear masks when leaving the house to reduce the impact on the health of residents, said Natanail Perangin-angin.
