Puan Kecam Israel's Harmony When Defending Palestine At The P20 Forum Appreciated

JAKARTA - The statement by the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, who straightforwardly criticized Israel while defending Palestine at the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speaker's Summit (P20), received attention. In the parliamentary leadership forum of the G20 countries, Puan alluded to Israel ignoring calls from the international community to end the war.

"The statement conveyed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives is fairly straightforward. And if you look at Israel's attitude, yes, the state leaders and elites should voice their tougher and frequent opinions," said International Relations Observer, Anton Aliabbas, Wednesday, November 13.

While attending the P20 Summit in Brazil, South America, last week, Puan raised many issues of global geopolitical dynamics that led to various humanitarian issues, including the Israeli attack on Palestine. Anton appreciated the message that Puan conveyed to the parliamentary leaders of the G20 countries regarding Israel's attitude.

"The pressure on Israel should be given harder and it is hoped that a wave of pressure on the country can be created bigger," he said.

According to Anton, Puan's firmness in the international forum in defending Palestine will further strengthen Government diplomacy on this issue at the global level. Moreover, the same commitment has also been conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto as Indonesia's new leader.

"The steps taken by the Speaker of the DPR, Puan Maharani, to encourage the Palestinian independence forum, of course, will further strengthen the efforts of the Prabowo Subianto government in encouraging the country's independence," said Anton.

"After all, the Government and the DPR should have complementary and strengthening attitudes and efforts to realize independence in Palestine. Because realizing this idea is not easy," continued the Lecturer at Paramadina University.

Anton also assessed that Puan's invitation to the P20 meeting that prompted the international community to push for an end to the conflict in Gaza was also at least an additional ammunition for the Government which also voiced the same spirit at the OKI Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

"Publics and international organizations should actually be constantly encouraged to take concrete steps in ending violence in Gaza," said Anton.

In front of participants at the P20 Summit in Brazil, Puan is known to have again invited the international community to support the ceasefire in Gaza. In addition, Puan also encouraged the opening of access to humanitarian aid in the region.

According to Anton, a reminder from Puan to other countries is very important considering the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza will get worse.

Anton also highlighted Puan's efforts to participate in the forum for the Speaker of Parliament for countries that are friendly with Palestine to help create peace in Gaza. This became a discussion when Puan held a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmus, on the sidelines of the P20 event in Brazil.

"Puan's efforts to initiate forums for Palestine should be socialized and used as lobby material during bilateral and multilateral meetings," explained Anton.
