JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka assessed that zoning programs have good goals, but there are a number of obstacles faced, one of which is the unequal number of teachers in a number of regions.
"So ladies and gentlemen, this zoning is a good program, but please later, ladies and gentlemen, during the coordination meeting, maybe we can provide input, because the number of our teachers is not evenly distributed," said Gibran when giving directions at the Coordination Meeting for the Evaluation of Basic and Secondary Education in Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 11.
Gibran said that although the zoning program has good goals, there are challenges in the form of not evenly distributing the number of teachers in a number of areas.
Some areas experience excess teachers, while others experience shortcomings. This is homework for the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education to complete.
"So zoning once again is a good program, but maybe it cannot be implemented in all regions," said the Vice President.
Gibran also mentioned the recurring problems that arise every year related to zoning policies, such as increasing domicile transfers ahead of New Student Admissions (PPDB) and inequality of educational facilities.
Gibran said that when he was Mayor of Solo, he received various complaints from the public regarding the implementation of the zoning program.
"Every year the problem is the same, the complaints that are directed at me are the same. Every year are repeated, repeated, repeated. And finally I wrote, yes but there was no response. So basically, ladies and gentlemen, please review this again, whether it will be forwarded or will return to the old system, please discuss it later," said the Vice President.
Gibran also requested that the Ministry of Education and Culture coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works to deal with damaged schools.
In addition, the Vice President also asked the heads of the education office to oversee the implementation of President Prabowo Subianto's strategic program, namely Free Nutrition Food (MBG).
"Please control this program well, our children are well guarded," said Gibran.
This coordination meeting was initiated to strengthen the synergy between the central government and local governments in improving the quality and distribution of education in the country.
The New Student Admission Policy (PPDB) and the recruitment of PPPK ASN Teachers were appointed as the main topics of discussion, because both have a crucial role in ensuring fair and quality access to education.
